We are currently recruiting for a Costs Draftsperson / Budgeter / Negotiator who can be based in our Liverpool or Bolton office. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about the work they do, the service they provide and getting the best results for their clients.
Providing bespoke Cost Drafting/Budgeting/Negotiation support to Large Loss legal colleagues within the organisation. Working with colleagues within a close-knit team environment to ensure both individual and departmental scheduling expectations/targets are serviced and met.
These opportunities will entail working on a variety of projects handling complex and high value clinical negligence cases, motorbike serious injury cases and professional negligence cases. The Large Loss legal team conducts COVID related claims for medical professionals and we are a Core Participant in the Thirlwall (Lucy Letby ) Enquiry.

Responsibilities to include:
- Drafting bills of costs (using CostsMaster drafting software) in both traditional and electronic (Precedent S) format
- Preparing Costs Budgets in form Precedent H in accordance with Departmental requirements/workstreams
- Providing dedicated costs support to colleagues, both within the Department and the legal business
- Working closely with colleagues and Department Manager within a team environment to ensure drafting expectations are achieved
- Maintaining awareness of claim lifecycles and ensuring that service delivery is maintained. Ensuring colleague/management expectations and outcomes are met in a timely fashion.
- Identifying and adhering to department/group objectives
- Showing initiative with ability to work within a team environment but autonomously (managing own caseload) and the capability to deal with complex matters
- Liaising with colleagues to maintain departmental working practices and procedures
- Understanding legal processes and documentation including internal case management system.
- Being passionate and enthusiastic about our work
- Thinking independently and taking ownership of work
- Being agile/responsive to work and adapting to change and evolution within the business
About You:
- Degree level and /or Qualified Costs Lawyer or significant experience of Cost drafting large loss complex files
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Bill Drafting or Budgeting role
- Proficient in using CostsMaster drafting software to draft bills in both traditional and Precedent S (electronic) format.
- Experience in drafting Bills of Costs in high value cases, such as Clinical Negligence, Professional Negligence or Complex Large Loss Serious Injuries
- Excellent communication, organisation and research skills
- Good understanding of the CPR, relevant legislation, case law and costs industry regulations
- Experience of using Proclaim case management system (desirable)
- Diligence and high attention to detail
